Accountant – 1 year FTC

Role Description

Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm

Our client, an exciting business based in Biggin Hill, is looking for an experienced accountant to join their team. This is an opportunity to work in an environment where attention to detail and professional rigour are valued, and where the work you do has a direct and visible impact on the business. This is a varied role where you will have exposure to multi-currency treasury, financial and management accounting, financial performance analysis and planning as well as having an international element.

Key Responsibilities –

Financial accounting and treasury operations

• Accounts Receivable: raise invoices to internal and external customers, credit control
• Deposits (received and paid) tracking
• Accounts Payable: supplier invoices processing
• Bank payments in GBP, EUR, USD, bank reconciliations, planning of weekly payments and each currency availability
• Stock and fixed assets (additions and depreciation) recording
• Credit cards and employees’ expenses processing. Administration of credit cards – fill in the application for new cards; support card holders in case of problems with payments.
• Intercompany transactions: allocation of group costs per 3-4 entities; reconciliation of I/C balances between entities of the group
• VAT compliance – test purchase and sales transactions for correct VAT treatment, check and submit quarterly VAT return
• Borrowings accounts – tracking of both internal and external loans
• General ledger ownership – Trial balance, P/L and Balance Sheet preparation
• Support of annual audit
• Year-end closing

Management accounting and analysis

Month-end closing including:

• Prepayments / Accruals postings
• Trial balance review for completeness
• P/L preparation and analysis (variance analysis, ensure that P/L makes sense)
• Profitability analysis
• Management report slides preparation with Sales, Opex, G&A results, ad hoc analysis for the period
• Budget preparation
• Cash Flow – actual and forecast
• Marketing report (spend per category)
• Submission of financial statements to internal and external stakeholders (bank, lenders, aircraft manufacturer)

Other

• Support stakeholders with company information such as directors register, past statutory accounts, etc
• Respond to data requests from Statistics authorities.
• Prepare financial information for renewal of insurance contracts
• Collaborate with other departments within company developing the culture of business partnering, openness and efficient communication, support colleagues with accounting queries
• Backup of other accountants during periods of absence on a mutual basis 
• Process improvement initiatives
• Other administrative duties as required

Future scope/ projects (subject to business development):

• System implementation project
• Process automation
• Foreign currency hedging transactions
• Group consolidation process (not planned for the nearest year)
• Group expansion to other countries

Skills & Core Characteristics –

• Confident knowledge of financial accounting to cover full scope for a legal entity
• Excellent attention to details
• Strong working knowledge of UK VAT rules with hands-on experience of quarterly return preparation and submission
• Experience of dealing with multi-currency transaction
• Experience in management accounting and analysis
• Proficiency in working with spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel
• Flexible and able to cope with changing priorities and business pressures
• Comfortable adopting technology and system functionality to improve efficiency and accuracy
• Strong Communication skills  
• Team Player

Experience & Qualifications –

• 5 years of relevant experience ideally within a highly customer focused environment
• Ideally AAT or studying towards technical accounting certificate (level 4)
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is an advantage
